Legislative Intern

 

Background: The Office of Representative Vargas seeks a highly motivated, self starting Legislative Intern for the Summer 2019 Intern Program. The legislative intern will take on projects in multiple disciplines including research, communications, constituent services and legislative strategy.  
 
Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research and produce legislative policy memos
  • Attend briefings hosted by advocacy groups
  • Draft letters, resolutions, talking points, press releases, and newsletters
  • Create content for social media
  • Support constituent services operation
  • Assist with daily office tasks
  • Participate in legislative intern workshops and speaker series
  • Attend committee hearings
  • Attend meetings with advocates and interest groups
 
Ideal Candidate:
  • Passion for Public Policy, Political Science/Government, Communications
  • Interest in gaining first hand knowledge of Beacon Hill and the legislative process
  • Self-motivated and willing to take initiative
  • Professional, responsible, and dedicated to self-development
  • Bilingual and/or familiarity with Haverhill a bonus

Multimedia and Communications Intern

 

Background: The Office of Representative Vargas seeks a highly motivated, self starting Multimedia and Communications Intern for the Summer 2019 Intern Program. The multimedia intern will take on a large responsibility for drafting, creating and disseminating videos, graphics, and other forms of communication that will promote Rep. Vargas’s legislative agenda.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Create short videos, gifs, graphic designs and engaging digital multimedia.
  • Draft press releases, blog posts, and social media copy
  • Research and produce short legislative policy clips to be disseminated to constituents and advocacy groups
  • Attend events and speaking engagements with Rep. Vargas
  • Propose and lead the multimedia strategy for office initiatives, bills, events, etc.
 
Ideal Candidate:
  • Experience in creating short videos, gifs, graphic design
  • Passion or experience in project management
  • Ability to take ideas and execute them
  • Self-motivated and willing to take initiative
  • Interest in public policy
  • Bilingual and/or familiarity with Haverhill a bonus

About Rep. Vargas

Andy X. Vargas was elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives in November of 2017. He previously served on the Haverhill City Council. He is a member of the Black and Latino Caucus and sits on the following committees: Ways & Means, Education, Public Health, and Small Business.
