Background: The Office of Representative Vargas seeks a highly motivated, self starting Civics Education Fellow. The fellow will be responsible for researching and evaluating the outcomes generated by the 2018 civics education bill. This is a stipend fellowship that ends in December of 2020.


  • Develop a survey for civics educators and students across the Commonwealth to collect quantitative and qualitative data on outcomes generated by the 2018 civics education bill.

  • Schedule virtual meetings with educators, students, and key stakeholders to gather data.

  • Identify common themes, strengths, and shortcomings in the implementation of the law.

  • Create a report summarizing findings and providing recommendations for further action to improve the state of civics education in the Commonwealth.


  • Strong research and writing skills

  • Ability to take on self-directed work

  • Demonstrated background or interest in civics or education policy

  • Preference for candidates with experience collecting and evaluating data for research purposes
